At the end of January, Dynatrace hosted Perform 2024 in Las Vegas. As in previous years, amasol was present on-site in 2024 with a team – Hans Hermann, Stefan Deml, and Stanislaw Radzioch. As expected, Dynatrace delivered a true fireworks display of product innovations over the four-day event. The direction Dynatrace is heading was already suggested by the event’s subtitle: The Cloud Innovation Conference.
Heading to the Cloud
This now applies to Dynatrace’s entire product strategy. Almost all of the innovations presented at Perform 2024 related exclusively to the cloud product line Dynatrace SaaS. A clear signal to all users still relying on Dynatrace Managed (i.e., operating the platform on-premises) to start planning their move to the cloud.
For companies in Germany and the EU that must comply with GDPR requirements, Dynatrace offers the necessary support. Dynatrace SaaS can be used in a GDPR-compliant way by ensuring that only relevant data is stored in the platform. The GDPR requirement to delete user data upon request is met through comprehensive data deletion capabilities in the solution. Additionally, Dynatrace recently achieved TISAX certification, further enhancing its compliance credentials.
Automation with AIOps
Regardless of deployment model, Perform 2024 was clearly centered around enhancing IT operations automation through AI-powered AIOps. The goal, which was repeatedly emphasized during the event, is to enable companies to deploy applications faster and with higher quality by leveraging AI-driven data analysis.
Dynatrace showcased how it uses AI-based automation within its own DevOps processes to significantly boost the efficiency of its 1,000+ developer team, reduce development errors, and improve security within the development cycle.
Additionally, AI supports service and support teams in classifying and resolving user issues more quickly and efficiently. IT security teams benefit from AI’s ability to proactively detect potential threats to their environments.
This is especially true for cloud-based IT environments. In a recent Dynatrace survey, 83% of respondents confirmed that AI technologies have become essential for keeping up with the dynamic nature of cloud environments. According to an IDC study, companies are already able to recoup their AI investments within just 14 months.
Cloud Cost Reporting
Another hot topic at Perform 2024 was cloud cost management. As companies adopt multi-cloud environments and AI technologies, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain visibility into the costs incurred. The introduction of new tools and platforms often leads to uncontrolled sprawl and potentially massive cost increases.
Dynatrace founder and CTO Bernd Greifeneder acknowledged this during his keynote: “CNCFs, thousands of tools, they pick up everything.”
With the Dynatrace platform, especially through its GRAIL Data Lakehouse and AppEngine, organizations can gain transparency and control over the cloud costs associated with these tools and services.
Matthias Dollentz-Scharer, Chief Customer Officer at Dynatrace, put it bluntly: “Every dollar we spend on our cloud infrastructure is one less we can invest in innovation and customer experience.”
He then introduced a four-phase model for cloud cost optimization and explained how the Dynatrace platform supports each of these phases.
Sustainability and Green IT
Sustainability was also a major theme at Perform 2024. Many companies are becoming aware that the IT industry now emits more CO? than international air travel, and this trend is only increasing.
Using the Lloyds Bank case study, Dynatrace demonstrated how DevOps optimizations can mitigate environmental impact. For example, even a minor code change that marginally increases resource usage in development can result in tons of additional CO? emissions once deployed at scale. With Dynatrace, Lloyds was able to identify and correct these environmental inefficiencies.
Dynatrace also presented a number of apps that automate such optimizations, including tools that automatically adjust Kubernetes container sizing in production. This not only reduces carbon emissions, but also lowers cloud costs, which is bringing us back to the topic of cost optimization.
Conclusion: The Challenge of Staying on Top
With the sheer volume of announcements and sessions, the biggest challenge for Perform 2024 attendees was simply keeping track of it all. If you missed anything or couldn’t attend in Las Vegas Dynatrace offers on-demand access to all Main Stage sessions here:

Final Thoughts from amasol’s Team
If you are still using Dynatrace in its Managed or On-Premises variant, now is the time to seriously consider migrating to the SaaS version in order to benefit from the many upcoming product innovations.
