Exeon.NDR: Privacy Meets Security

IT can be intimidating, especially when it comes to topics such as compliance, data protection, and privacy.

In this short article, we will break down how Exeon.NDR helps you protect your business, keep your data private, and remain fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is a cornerstone of EU data privacy law. GDPR outlines strict requirements for how personal data must be handled, including principles such as data minimization (Article 5), privacy by Design and default (Article 25), and security of processing (Article 32).

According to this article here, “The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has imposed a historic fine of €1.2 billion for Meta’s failure to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Meta, the parent company of popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, violated privacy rules by transferring personal data of European users to the United States without adequate data protection mechanisms.”

According to this article here, “The Spanish data protection authority Agencia Española de Protección de
Datos (AEPD) has imposed a fine of EUR 4 million on the insurance group Generali España after unauthorized third parties gained access to the data of former and current customers. The cyberattack led to the sale of around 25,000 data records containing copies of customers’ ID cards and IBAN numbers, among other things. The AEPD justified the fine with inadequate technical and organizational measures, a breach of privacy by design and a failure to carry out a data protection impact assessment, which was necessary due to the extensive data processing in the IT system.

Balancing security with compliance

Most security tools dig deep into your data to find threats. That is helpful but it can raise concerns about privacy and compliance.

Exeon takes a smarter approach.

How Exeon.NDR works

Instead of inspecting the content of your files, Exeon.NDR analyzes metadata such as:

• IP addresses (sources and destination)
• Port numbers (which services are accessed)
• Protocols (HTTP, DNS, SMB, etc.)
• Connection timestamps (when communication occur)
• Session duration (how long the connections last)
• Data volume (how much data is transferred)
• Flow direction (inbound, outbound, lateral movement)
• Frequency of connections (normal vs abnormal patterns)

This enables Exeon to detect:

• Anomalies such as unusual data transfers.
• Lateral movement between internal systems.
• Suspicious communication with unknown servers.

What this means for you

• Fully compliant with GDPR.
• Monitoring is non-intrusive. (Exeon analyzes meta data only, never the content, ensuring your sensitive data remains private and fully under your control)
• Gain visibility into east-west traffic.
• Your sensitive data stays private. (emails, file attachments, messages, employees’ personal records, customers’ personal records)
